Allan Forrest, the proprietor of A&E Forrest, started his patternmaking apprenticeship at Loudon Products of Cleland, Motherwell in 1967.
From here he learned and honed his skills working with wood, metal, and resin work, all in the aid to produce the required pattern equipement for the local shipyards, Rolls Royce turbine casings and also small water pump impellers.
Allan then took the leap in 1988 and started up on his own continuing on with the traditional patternmaking, from there he then progressed into large fibreglass production masters and moulds for buses and also scale model ships.
With advancements in technology the company decided to invest in CNC machinery along with Delcam Cad Cam software and in 1998 bought its first full 3D CNC Bridgeport.
At this point The company utilised the experience it had gained and combined manual patternmaking with CNC machining, continually evolving with larger jobs and creating the need for the large Thermwood 5 axis CNC in 2008. This has continued on through the years with the increased demand for accurate production of patterns and we now have a wide range of cutting edge machinery including full 3D scanning and basic 3D printing facilities.
